THE SON WENT OVER THE CLIFF. HIS FATHER TRIED TO SAVE HIM. HIS MOTHER FOLLOWED. THREE LIVES WERE LOS
An argument reportedly involving an iPhone ended with a teenager and both of his parents losing their lives on the same Maharashtra hillside.
On August 21, 2026, 18-year-old Kunal Chandwade went to Khavdya Dongar near Tisgaon in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district after an argument with his family. Police officials told NDTV that Kunal had already bought an iPhone on installments and had asked his family for money toward the payments.
For nearly three hours, his parents, villagers, police and firefighters tried to persuade him to move away from the cliff. Fire crews positioned safety nets below, while his mother, Sangeeta, pleaded with him to step back. Tisgaon sarpanch Sanjay Jadhav even offered Kunal an iPhone in an attempt to keep him engaged and bring him to safety.
Despite those efforts, Kunal eventually went over the edge. His 48-year-old father, Murlidhar, moved toward him in an attempt to intervene, and both fell. Reports say Sangeeta then jumped after witnessing what happened, although police said they were still establishing the exact sequence of those final moments.
All three died.
Wildlings, the iPhone dispute may have triggered the confrontation, but it would be too simple to say a phone alone caused this tragedy. What followed was a three-hour emotional crisis in which a family, villagers and emergency crews desperately tried to prevent three lives from being lost.
Behind arguments that seem small can sometimes be distress far bigger than anyone realizes.
