Everyone Knew I Had HIV... Except Me
Growing up, I thought I was just a sickly child. I was always in and out of the hospital, always taking medication daily. Whenever I asked why, I was told, “It’s to keep you strong.” I believed them. At 13, during a routine clinic visit, I overheard two nurses whispering. One said, “That’s the girl born with it.” Born with what? That sentence wouldn’t leave my mind. That night, I searched through my mother’s drawer and found my hospital file.
