Trust & Safety

How buying and selling stays safe on Marcatir.

Marcatir is built to help buyers and sellers transact with confidence, transparency, and security. This page explains how transactions work, how we protect both parties, and what you should know to buy and sell safely in Nigeria.

Payments

How Transactions Work

From the first message to the money reaching the seller — and where escrow sits in between.

  1. 1

    Browse & Negotiate

Buyers browse listings and contact sellers directly through Marcatir chat. Both parties discuss the item, negotiate the price, and agree on delivery or pickup terms.

    Escrow Payment

Each seller chooses, listing by listing, whether to use escrow. On a listing that uses it, the buyer pays through Marcatir Escrow powered by Paystack. Funds are securely held until the buyer confirms receipt and satisfaction with the item. Sellers need a payout account to use escrow, so we know where to release the funds.

    1. Buyer pays → Funds held in escrow
    2. Seller ships or delivers item
    3. Buyer inspects and confirms item
    4. Funds released to seller
  3. 3

    Direct Payment (Optional)

A listing without escrow has no Buy or offer button: the buyer messages the seller and the two arrange payment between them. No payout account is needed to list this way. Buyers and sellers on an escrow listing may also agree to pay directly. Either way, both parties are responsible for ensuring safe payment and delivery, and the dispute process does not cover the sale.

Marcatir cannot guarantee transactions completed outside of the escrow system.

  4. 4

    Confirmation & Release

After the buyer receives the item and confirms it matches the description, they release the payment. The seller receives their funds, and the transaction is complete.

Disputes

How Disputes Are Handled

If the item doesn't match the description, is damaged, or there's a disagreement between buyer and seller, Marcatir provides dispute resolution support.

Opening a Dispute

Buyers can open a dispute within the escrow transaction interface. Marcatir moderators review evidence from both parties (photos, chat logs, receipts) and make a fair decision.

Moderator Decision

  • If the buyer is correct, funds are refunded
  • If the seller is correct, funds are released to the seller
  • If both parties agree on a resolution, the decision is implemented

Prevention is Better

Most disputes can be avoided by clear communication, detailed photos, and honest descriptions. Both buyers and sellers should be transparent throughout the process.

What Marcatir Does

  • Escrow Protection: Hold funds securely until buyers confirm receipt
  • Dispute Resolution: Fair mediation when issues arise
  • Seller Verification: Verified badges for trusted sellers
  • Transaction History: Track seller ratings and past transactions
  • Secure Chat: Keep all communication within the platform
  • Fraud Prevention: Monitor for suspicious activity and scams

What Marcatir Does NOT Do

  • We do not inspect items before sale. Buyers are responsible for inspecting items before confirming payment release.
  • We do not provide shipping or logistics. Delivery is arranged between buyer and seller.
  • We do not guarantee item quality or authenticity. Buyers should verify items before purchase.
  • We are not a licensed financial institution. Marcatir only facilitates marketplace transactions, not banking or lending.
