He recalled that he contested the 2015 Governorship Election and went to the tribunal to contest the election result when the victory was given to the Peoples Democratic Party’s Governorship Candidate, Okezie Ikpeazu. The governor said that he was in Abuja trying to hold a meeting with someone, who repeatedly shifted the dates, until the meeting still did not take place.

Otti said that he subsequently informed his friends that he would leave Abuja the next day since the meeting didn’t hold, in spite of their objections.

“There was only one flight from Abuja to Owerri then. “All my friends objected. I said, Well, I have received a message that I must leave Abuja.

“So, to make it make sense, I told them I wanted to be at the tribunal on Friday, so they grudgingly accepted. “That night, assassins attacked my residence in Abuja, shot two policemen dead, and they were looking for me. “Of course, God had taken me away,” he said.

Otti said the attackers, after failing to find him, apparently believed he was still within the premises and proceeded to search the adjoining compound.

He said, “When they finished and couldn’t find me. They were convinced I was there. “They had so much time. By the way, this was Maitama. “They jumped into the next compound, and I learnt that they were up to 12. “They jumped into the next compound and stripped the whole building.”

The governor said he was not in a position to oppose Tinubu’s candidacy, adding that doing so while being part of the government could lead to “implosion”. “It works the way you have said. It’s a statement of fact. I am not in a position to oppose his candidacy,” Otti said.

He, however, distinguished between supporting Tinubu’s administration and having a presidential candidate for the Labour Party in the 2027 election.

Asked directly whether he was supporting Tinubu for re-election, Otti said he had previously stated that he had a presidential candidate for the Labour Party. When the interviewer identified Tinubu as that candidate, Otti rejected the suggestion.

“No, that’s not what I said,” he said. Asked whether he was referring to a Labour Party presidential candidate, Otti replied, “Yes.”

According to him, he was left confused after the man reportedly ended up inside a GT tank in his house.

In his words, he said: “I was sentenced to Kirikiri prison for a year and a half because I accommodated someone and he died in my house. I don’t know what came into him that landed him inside a GT tank.

I don’t know his father and mother. I only helped him because he’s my person.” The man further recalled how the deceased’s family travelled from Ibadan after his death and reportedly asked the police not to release him.

He explained that he eventually found a way through the situation, expressing gratitude to God for coming through for him despite the difficult experience.

“Thank God we were able to find him inside. The family travelled down from Ibadan and told the policemen not to free me. But I’m grateful God came through for me,” he added. His account has sparked reactions online, with social media users discussing the unusual circumstances surrounding the man’s death and the consequences faced by his host.

The latest figure represents a slight movement from Thursday’s official closing rate of N1,328.00 per dollar, with market activity remaining relatively calm.

Parallel market maintains narrow range Outside the official market, dollar prices also remained fairly steady. Currency dealers in major commercial centres such as Lagos and Abuja quoted the greenback at around N1,370 for buying and between N1,374 and N1,380 for selling.

Based on the parallel-market selling rate of N1,374, a person seeking $100 would need about N137,400, while $1,000 would cost approximately N1.374 million.

Using the NFEM rate of N1,326.06, $1,000 would translate to roughly N1.326 million. Difference between the two markets The figures put the difference between the official rate and parallel-market selling prices at roughly N48 to N54 per dollar, depending on the parallel-market rate used.

The relatively contained gap indicates that dollar prices in the two market segments have continued to trade within a comparatively close range.

CBN policies and dollar supply The recent stability has been associated by market observers with foreign-exchange measures implemented by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), alongside the country’s foreign reserve position.

With available dollar supply reportedly meeting immediate demand from importers, trading activity is expected to remain relatively calm as the week ends.

“You are the richest Black man in the world, not only on the continent. Why do you need that much money? You can dip into your finances, take some money, fund the project. Why the IPO, and why now?” he said. Dangote, however, explained that the purpose of the IPO was not to raise money for the project, but to give ordinary people an opportunity to own part of the business.

He specifically mentioned workers and members of the public who may not ordinarily have access to large-scale investments, explaining that he wanted them to participate in the company’s growth.

“Okay, so let me tell you. The IPO we’re doing is not that we want to raise money. It is purely we want the poor people, people like my driver, my cook, your driver, your cook, yourself, your wife, and your kids, to have a piece of the action,” he added.
