Five Arrested Over Alleged Kidnapping And Rape Of E-hailing Driver In Cape Town
South African police have arrested five suspects, including two women, over the alleged kidnapping and rape of a 25-year-old e-hailing driver in Cape Town. According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the driver was allegedly lured to meet a woman he had encountered through his e-hailing work before being kidnapped and held for ransom.
Police said the suspects allegedly contacted the victim's brother and demanded R4,000 in exchange for his release.
The victim's brother alerted police, who tracked the driver's vehicle using its tracking system. Officers eventually located and rescued him in Heathfield. SAPS said the victim told police that he had been sexually assaulted by two female suspects while being held by the group.
Five people were arrested in connection with the incident: two women aged 23 and 34, and three men aged 16, 42 and 48.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Monday, September 14, to face charges relating to the alleged kidnapping, rape and ransom demand. The allegations have not been tested in court, and the suspects remain innocent unless proven guilty. Source: hostelite.ng
