Don't Curse; Pray For Them
Some people hurt you; some hurt people you love; some make you wonder why you should wish them good at all. The Companions felt that pain too and asked the Prophet (SAW) to supplicate against their persecutors - he chose mercy instead. Abu Hurayrah reported it was said: "O Messenger of Allah, pray against the idolaters!"
He said: "Verily, I was not sent to invoke curses, but rather I was only sent as mercy" (Sahih Muslim 2599).
And when the arrows of Thaqif had wounded the Companions and they asked him to pray against them, he could have cursed them but prayed for their guidance instead: "O Allah, guide the tribe of Thaqif!"
(Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3942). That is the Sunnah of mercy - not pretending evil doesn't exist, not excusing injustice, but remembering that guidance can turn an enemy into a brother.
Don't be too quick to ask Allah to destroy someone He may choose to guide. Allaahul Musta'aan.
