Plenty of blogs and WhatsApp broadcasts are claiming the DSS recruitment portal is open for 2026, and some are even collecting "form fees". I checked the official source so you don't have to. The DSS careers page (dss.gov.ng/career) currently says, word for word: "The DSS is not currently recruiting." "All recruitment activities are currently suspended. We will announce any future opportunities through our official channels when they become available."
That is the entire status as of today, 21 August 2026. No portal, no form, no shortlist. What this means in practice: 1. Any website or agent telling you the DSS form is out RIGHT NOW is either recycling old news or running a scam. 2. The DSS does not charge for recruitment at any stage. Anybody asking for money for a form, a "slot" or "assistance" is a scammer. Full stop. 3. Real announcements will come through dss.gov.ng and verified DSS channels first.
If you cannot find it there, it is not real. 4. The usual scam pattern: fake portal opens, asks for NGN 2,000 - 10,000 "processing fee", collects your NIN/BVN details, then disappears. Your personal data is worth as much to them as the fee. If and when recruitment actually opens, the general requirements from previous cycles (Nigerian citizenship, age limits, minimum OND/HND/BSc depending on cadre, medical fitness) will apply.
But requirements only matter once there is a real portal to apply through. I keep a status page updated with the official position and what to watch out for here: https://myscholarshipbaze.com/department-of-state-dss-recruitment/ Stay safe. Verify before you pay anybody anything.
