1578 Plantin Caesar Commentarii + 1870 Comprehensive Family Bible: How Empire Wa
Good evening. I have two books in hand and I need mature history. BOOK 1: C. IVLII CAESARIS COMMENTARII. ANTVERPIAE, Ex officina Christoph. Plantini, M.D.LXXVIII (1578) - Christophe Plantin, Golden Compass press, Antwerp, Printer to King Philip II of Spain. Title page with caryatid columns and two cherubs. Page 7 with handwritten marginalia.
Woodcut: Rhine Bridge (Lib IV). Woodcut: Siege Works (Lib VII).
Index: NOMINA, tum vetera, tum recentia, explanata - Armoricae, Ambiani, Arverni, Atrebates. This is the HOW book. BOOK 2: The Comprehensive Family Bible with commentaries of Scott and Henry, edited by Rev. John Eadie, London: Walter Scott, c.1870-1875 - Victorian parlor Bible with brass clasps, with notes on Psalm 68:31 'Ethiopia shall soon stretch out her hands' and Ezekiel 29 on AEGYPTUS.
This is the WHY book. MY QUESTION: Both books treat AEGYPTUS/AETHIOPS as fallen or heathen. But 1st century silver Tyche bowls and gold bowls made in Alexandria/Kush at the same time Caesar was writing show wealthy kingdoms with royal iconography. The 1536 Phrases Divinae lists AETHIOPS as kingdom. The 1870 Bible lists it as mission field.
Which is true? Metal proves the 1536 view. Photos attached. I welcome corrections and sources.
