I Know Him Well, No Need To Check Papers — From Trust To Trap
This one dey pain my heart small anytime I hear am. I've come across so many cases where people bought land from someone they "know well" — maybe a family friend, church member, or someone from their hometown — and because of that familiarity, they skipped the normal checks. No Ministry of Lands search, no proper documentation review, nothing.
Just, "I trust this person." Months or years later, na wahala.
Sometimes the person genuinely didn't have full rights to sell. Sometimes another buyer shows up with older, more valid documents. Sometimes it's the person's own family disputing after they've passed on. What I've come to realize be say: knowing somebody personally tells you about their character, not about the actual legal state of the land.
Two completely different things. A person fit be very honest, kind, God-fearing — and still unknowingly sell you land that has issues they themselves don't fully understand.
I no dey try scatter anybody's trust for their people o, I just think say verification should always happen regardless of relationship. No be say the person go fit deceive you on purpose, sometimes even they no know say problem dey.
Anybody wey don experience this before? How e take turn out for una?
