Nollywood stars, filmmakers and leading entertainment industry personalities gathered at Fame, Lekki, Lagos, on Sunday for the Nigerian premiere of 19, the highly anticipated crime drama written and directed by filmmaker Tola Odunsi. The premiere attracted industry heavyweights including Toyin Abraham, Kunle Afolayan, Deyemi Okanlawon, Wale Ojo, Linda Ejiofor, Femi Adebayo, Darey Art Alade and Kunle Remi.
Led by Stan Nze, Sola Sobowale, Bisola Aiyeola, Deyemi Okanlawon, William Benson and Ademola Adedoyin, 19 boasts an impressive ensemble that also includes Boma Akpore, Helen Enado Odigie, Tayo Faniran and Charles Okafor. Set against the backdrop of Nigeria's battle with internet fraud, the film follows Ndubuisi Madueke (Stan Nze), a young man whose circumstances and desperation eventually draw him into the world of internet fraud after encountering Usuanlele, a wealthy and influential figure who becomes his mentor.
Rather than simply portraying internet fraud as a criminal act, 19 explores the circumstances that push young people towards it - poverty, unemployment, corruption, peer pressure and the relentless pursuit of financial success. The title 19 is a reference to Section 419 of the Nigerian Criminal Code, historically associated with advance-fee fraud. Written and directed by Tola Odunsi and distributed by Nile Entertainment, 19 opens in Nigerian cinemas on September 11. (Source: applesbite.com. One image. 18 replies.)
