4 YEARS AGO TODAY, I JAPA'D FROM NIGERIA TO THE UK. I left Nigeria with hope, dreams and plenty of uncertainty. I thought Japa meant everything would become easier. I was wrong but it was the best decision of my life. The UK gave me opportunities, certain peace of mind and security. Sometimes I miss the Nigeria I complained about. Sometimes I ask myself, "If I knew what I know now, would I still have left?"
But one thing Japa gave me that money cannot buy: PERSPECTIVE. Four years later, I wouldn't tell anyone to Japa or stay. I'll simply say: know WHY you are leaving before you leave. Because moving abroad can change your location without automatically changing your life. LET'S START A REAL CONVERSATION: If you could go back to the day you left Nigeria, WOULD YOU STILL JAPA? YES or NO - and tell me the biggest lesson Japa has taught you. Let's hear the truth. Credit: Anthony Egbuniwe
