The genius coach Monday Odigie is the last coach to have eliminated a North African club side from a CAF competition and it was in 2023 with Bendel Insurance FC of Benin city. Bendel Insurance recorded a one zero win in Benin City Nigeria but went away and won via penalties after losing by a goal to nil, with Amas Obasogie of Bendel Insurance saving two penalties in the very encounter.
Aso Chlef team from Algeria was worth millions of dollars then and I was scared when Insurance was to meet them. The genius coach Monday Odigie waved his magic wand and ensured Insurance of Benin scaled through that round. Presently Nigerian club sides are no match to North African club sides and the people in charge of running the game are lackadaisical on what to do to turn the tide around. Maybe they should ask coach Monday Odigie how he did it then. Bonne nuit.
