LATE RELEASE OF NECO 2026 SSCE RESULTS: DISENFRANCHISING THE FUTURE OF STUDENTS Academic admission into universities largely depends on candidates obtaining the required number of credit passes in their O'level examinations, depending on their chosen courses of study. Credit must be given to the Federal Government for establishing the National Examinations Council (NECO), not as a rival to WAEC, but as a complementary examination body established to broaden opportunities and help actualise the educational aspirations of students and their parents.
But what is the essence of having NECO if its results are not released early enough to enable students to secure admission into universities? A significant number of students who have one or two deficiencies in their already released WAEC results have been anxiously waiting for the release of their NECO results, hoping to use the results to meet their admission requirements. Unfortunately, the continued delay is becoming a serious source of concern.
Some universities have already closed their admission windows, while others are fast approaching their deadlines. This places thousands of students in a difficult and unfair situation, especially when the delay is entirely beyond their control. Education is time-sensitive. A delayed result can mean a delayed admission, a lost academic session, or even a missed opportunity. Concerned students and parents are therefore appealing to the National Examinations Council to expedite the processing and release of the 2026 SSCE results.
NECO must act urgently to prevent thousands of deserving students from being unfairly disadvantaged because of circumstances they cannot control. The future of our children should not be held hostage by avoidable delays. We respectfully call on NECO and all relevant authorities to release the 2026 SSCE results without further delay and give these students a fair chance to pursue their dreams.
