Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Lagos, have arrested four suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate allegedly terrorising residents around the Iju-Ishaga-Oke Aro axis of Lagos State. The operation also led to the recovery of 25 mobile phones, two laptops, gold earrings, a gold necklace and three cutlasses. The suspects, identified as Damilare Oluwatobi, 28; Lekan Adenuga, 30; Haruna Sheriff, 22; and David Balogun, 24, were arrested at their hideout in the Idi-Oro area of Mushin following an intelligence-driven operation launched after the VCRU received a distress call concerning an armed robbery incident.
According to the VCRU Commander, CSP Oyindamola, detectives leveraged intelligence and camera recordings to trace the suspects; arrests made at about 1:40 p.m. Preliminary interrogation led to confessional statements - the gang operated with two locally made pistols and three cutlasses. Efforts ongoing to recover the firearms and establish ownership of the valuables. Idi-Oro, Mushin, is notorious for movement and disposal of stolen mobile phones and electronics.
The VCRU is one of the operational innovations established under IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu as part of intelligence-driven, proactive and technology-supported policing.
