A civil society organisation has called on the Kano State Police Command to conduct a thorough investigation into the killing of political commentator and social media critic, Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu. The Foundation for Digital Justice (FDJ) made the demand in a petition sent to the police following the murder of Dan Shagamu at his residence in Gaida Quarters, Kumbotso LGA of Kano State.
The organisation urged investigators to examine not only those who carried out the attack but also whether the commentator's public criticism and advocacy activities may have played a role. Dan Shagamu, a former radio reporter who later became known for his political and social commentary on digital platforms, was reportedly killed at his home on September 8. The foundation said reports indicated the deceased had previously expressed concerns about his safety; investigators should determine whether any threats he allegedly received were connected to the attack.
It warned that failure to carry out a credible investigation could raise broader concerns about freedom of expression. The Kano State Police Command has already launched an investigation; two suspects previously arrested with efforts continuing to apprehend others. Source: yaroinsider.ng
