IGBOS IN DIASPORA DEMAND MAXIMUM SECURITY FOR PETER OBI AS HE VISITS GERMANY AND LONDON. 'Nothing Must Happen To Him' - Ohanaeze Diaspora, Obidients Issue Strong Warning. LONDON / BERLIN / ABUJA - September 2026: Igbo leaders and Obidient supporters in Germany and the United Kingdom have called on British and German authorities to ensure maximum security for former presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi as he embarks on official visits to both countries.
The call comes as Mr. Obi is expected to meet with Nigerians in diaspora, investors, and international partners in London and Berlin this week. In a joint statement released on Tuesday, groups including Ohanaeze Ndigbo Germany, Ohanaeze UK, and Coalition of Obidients in Europe said Peter Obi is not just an Igbo leader but a symbol of hope for millions of young Nigerians. 'Peter Obi is our most valuable political voice.
We are asking the governments of Germany and the United Kingdom to provide full protection during his stay. Nothing must happen to him on German or London soil. We will hold peaceful rallies to welcome him. Any attempt to harass or harm him will be met with massive peaceful protests by law-abiding Igbos and Nigerians across Europe.' The diaspora leaders stressed that their response will be 100% lawful and peaceful: peaceful welcome rallies in London, Berlin, Hamburg and Munich; petitions to UK Home Office and German Federal Police for VIP protection; live coverage of all his movements to ensure transparency; massive legal support if any threat arises.
'We do not believe in violence. We believe in the law. In Germany and the UK, the law protects everyone. We will use the law,' said Mr. Chidi Okoro, a coordinator in London. Peter Obi has visited both countries several times since 2023 without any security incident. German and UK police typically provide security for high-profile foreign political figures on request. The Nigerian High Commissions in London and Berlin have been notified of his visits. The message from Igbos abroad is not warfare - it is protection and vigilance.
