Clearlake Capital is taking full control of Chelsea after Todd Boehly and Mark Walter agreed to sell their stakes in the Premier League club.
(iexclusivenews)—Clearlake Capital has secured full control of Chelsea Football Club after acquiring the ownership interests of Todd Boehly and Mark Walter.
Chelsea confirmed the ownership transition on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
The move ends the joint-control arrangement that followed the consortium’s takeover of Chelsea from Roman Abramovich in 2022.
Boehly will also step down as chairman as part of the transition. Before the transaction, Clearlake held a 61.5% stake in Chelsea.
Boehly, Walter and Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss each held about 12.8%.
Clearlake’s purchase of Boehly and Walter’s interests gives the investment firm control of the club.
Wyss will remain an important stakeholder in the ownership group, according to Chelsea. Financial details were not disclosed by Chelsea in its announcement.
The Financial Times reported that Boehly and Walter are set to receive about £950 million for their combined 25% stake.
The transaction values Chelsea at approximately £5 billion including debt, according to the report.
