- THE ISSUE
History books say Idu and Udo are in Edo State, created 1991. Nairaland thread 8749350 has debated this.
I say: Idu is Ndu Idu - lowland salt valley at Omuagu Idembia 6.15N 7.98E. Udo is peace shrine where 6 towns keep Ovu oath box. Edo State is 250km away at 6.33N 5.62E and has no salt lake.
- FORENSIC PROOF
British Museum object Af1907,1111.14 labeled "Unknown outside Bonny River"
- Salt crust: Off-white bitter magnesium salt, matches Ugwulangwu hill 6°01'52"N 7°53'00"E and Oshiri hill 6°08'05"N 7°53'22"E, not white sea salt of Bonny.
- Wood: Hard inland forest wood (Oji/Ukpo), not soft Bonny mangrove.
- Carving: Geometric salt wave pattern, not Edo bronze Oba head.
Lab result: Box is Ezza, not Edo, not Bonny.
- ARCHIVE PROOF
- HMS Thistle Ship Log ADM 53/39021 Lot 10, Capt Tiller, Dec 1901: "Collected 1 wooden box containing native salt - Ezza district" during Aro Field Force 1901-1902.
- British Museum register 1907: Africa 1907,1111.14 - clerk wrote Unknown outside Bonny River because ship came from Bonny River port, not because origin was unknown.
- FOI-26088 reply 18 May 2026 confirms item came via Aro Expedition material.
Chain: Omuagu vault 6.15N 7.98E burnt -> HMS Thistle -> Bonny River -> London -> mislabeled as Unknown.
- MAP AND LANGUAGE
- Idu in Ezza means lowland (150m elevation, salt valley). Edo is highland forest (300m, no salt). Same place cannot be two elevations.
- Udo in Ezza means peace, not town. Ado n'Idu = Adu (border gate) n'Idu (of lowland) = Border gate of lowland salt valley. Perfect Ezza language.
- 6 towns witness system: Okposi, Uburu, Idembia, Ikwo, Izzi, Ngbo. They swear on Ovu at Udo shrine. Edo uses Oba system. Different law.
- WHY THE ERROR HAPPENED
1907 clerk error made Ezza Inside become Unknown Outside. Once labeled Unknown, anyone could claim it. Edo was linked because Idumwun (Benin quarter) sounds like Idu, and Bonny is near South-South.
