A 15-year-old boy identified as Taiye Majekodunmi has reportedly been arrested in Lagos after allegedly being found with a firearm concealed inside a loaf of bread. Watch the video here: [ https://www.facebook.com/share/r/18deEQBry7/
In a video showing his interrogation, the teenager said he lives around Mushin Market and identified the item found in his possession as a gun.
When asked where he got the firearm, Taiye reportedly told his interrogators that a friend named Samuel gave it to him.
“Samuel gave it to me,” the teenager said in the video.
Teen Says Friend Asked Him to Take Bread to Oshodi Explaining how he came to be carrying the bread, Taiye said Samuel approached him after he returned from school and asked him to deliver it to Oshodi.
According to the teenager, Samuel told him that someone would meet him at Terminal 1 to collect the bread.
He reportedly said:
“Now today he saw me when I got back from school and asked me to help him to something to Oshodi and that someone will come and meet me at terminal 1 to collect the bread from me sir.”
When asked whether Samuel was his brother, Taiye replied that they were friends.
“No, he’s my friend,” he said.
The teenager also told the interrogators that he had not known Samuel for a long time and did not know what his friend did for a living.
“I just see him everyday,” he reportedly said.
Investigation Expected to Establish Source of Firearm Taiye confirmed during the questioning that he was 15 years old.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged firearm, including where it came from, who it was intended for and whether Samuel was involved, remain subject to investigation.
Authorities would also be expected to establish the identity of the alleged Samuel and determine whether other individuals were involved in the suspected movement of the firearm.
Because the person arrested is a minor, the circumstances of his arrest and any subsequent proceedings should be handled in accordance with applicable laws governing children and juvenile justice.
The teenager’s statements in the interrogation video are allegations and have not, on their own, established criminal responsibility for him or the person he identified as Samuel.
