Umo Eno Orders Release Of Appointment Letters To 4,000 Akwa Ibom Workers

Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has directed the immediate issuance of appointment letters to 4,000 successful applicants from the state’s recently concluded civil service recruitment exercise.

Eno gave the directive on Friday after receiving the Civil Service Recruitment Report from the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Civil Service Commission, Ekerebong Umoh, at the Government House in Uyo.

The governor approved the release of the appointment letters and fixed October 1, 2026, as the effective date of the appointments.

The newly recruited civil servants are expected to resume work on October 2.

“I have approved the immediate release of appointment letters to 4,000 successful applicants recruited into the Akwa Ibom state civil service.

Appointments take effect on October 1, 2026. They are expected to resume work on October 2, 2026,” Eno said.

The development comes days after the state government disclosed a broader recruitment programme involving thousands of personnel across different sectors of the public service.

Akwa Ibom Head of Civil Service, Elsie Peters, said the state had recruited or approved the recruitment of approximately 7,069 personnel.

The figure includes workers for the mainstream civil service, education, healthcare, the judiciary and other critical areas.

The state government said the recruitment was aimed at addressing manpower gaps and strengthening service delivery.

Peters also disclosed that the administration had paid more than N90 billion out of inherited gratuity liabilities of over N111 billion owed to retired public servants.

She said the government had maintained regular salary payments and implemented an N80,000 minimum wage from November 2024, alongside other worker welfare measures.

In a separate decision announced by the governor on Friday, Eno also approved the recruitment of an additional 2,000 teachers through the State Universal Basic Education Board.

The teachers are expected to complement the model primary schools constructed across the state.

The latest appointments will expand the workforce of the Akwa Ibom State Civil Service as the government continues its wider recruitment programme across key sectors.
