A heartbreaking case out of Lakeland, Florida, highlights the deadly consequences of severe child neglect.
Tatiana Norman, 23, was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse resulting in death following the tragic death of her 6 month old son.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on June 29, when Norman became overwhelmed and threw her infant son into a playpen. The child missed the playpen and struck his head and back on the hard tile floor. Instead of calling 911 for emergency medical assistance, Norman spent the next several hours on her phone. Investigators revealed a disturbing timeline:
Inadequate Searches: Over the course of the evening, Norman conducted brief web searches asking "baby has concussion" and "baby feels cold"
Heavy Phone Usage Rather than seeking immediate care, she spent hours scrolling social media apps like TikTok and visiting adult/pornographic websites over 30 times while her injured child lay unattended.
Delayed Emergency Call: She waited hours before finally dialing 911 late that night. By the time first responders arrived, the infant was unresponsive and could not be revived. Medical examiners noted that prompt medical treatment immediately following the drop likely would have saved the baby's life. Norman was subsequently taken into custody and faces severe criminal charges as the investigation continues.
