Defensiveness Build Walls
DEFENSIVENESS BUILDS WALLS Your spouse says: “That hurt me.” You respond: “But you hurt me first.”
Your spouse says: “I felt ignored.” You respond: “You're always complaining.”
Your spouse says: “I need you.” You respond:
“I'm busy.” And suddenly, the conversation is no longer about healing.
It has become a battle of defense. Defensiveness can turn a bridge into a wall. Learn to listen without immediately preparing your defense.
Not everything should be spoken in anger. But not everything should be swallowed forever.
Unspoken pain can become resentment. Unexpressed needs can become distance. Unresolved misunderstandings can become assumptions.
There is wisdom in learning how to say difficult things in a healthy way. Silence is not always maturity.
Sometimes maturity is having the courage to speak—with wisdom, timing, and love.
