A lot of social media creators are constantly recommending minoxidil for beard and hair growth, but the conversation often leaves out an important part: what happens when you stop using it?
I’ve personally had experience with minoxidil, and for me, the results came with a downside I wasn’t prepared for. The hair I gained while using it did not only fall off after I stopped, it even took more hairs than it gave me! That experience made me start looking into other approaches to beard and hair care.
If you’re dealing with a patchy beard or a receding hairline, there are also natural ingredients that people commonly incorporate into their hair and beard routines, and these can be made in your kitchen. All you need are: rosemary, fenugreek, hibiscus, amla, moringa and black seed, infused into suitable carrier oils like sunflower, jojoba and castor seed oil
The important thing is consistency. There is not an overnight solution for beard growth.
And because I know most of us men aren't exactly known for having elaborate grooming routines, I decided to test out a few brands that already use this proven herbs and share the ones I've genuinely enjoyed using.
Here’s my personal list:
1. UGHO Africa UGHO takes a more complete approach rather than simply giving you a bottle of oil.
Their routine includes a beard shampoo, softening balm and beard growth oils, with different scents to choose from. They also have products targeting beard bumps.
One thing I particularly like is the focus on keeping the beard and the skin underneath it properly cared for rather than simply applying oil and hoping for the best.
I've personally used their products for months, including the hair growth oil and bump treatment, and I've enjoyed the overall routine.
The biggest lesson for me has been consistency. You can't use a growth product twice and expect a transformation.
- Brother's Beard
Another brand I've really enjoyed is Brother's Beard, a South African brand with a similar focus on having a proper beard care routine.
Their beard oil contains sandalwood, and one thing I particularly like about it is the light, non greasy feel.
It's a very straightforward product and feels good on the beard.
- Beard X Butter
If I never have to worry about beard growth again and ill i want is clean, elite maintenance, this is the brand i'll go for. This one feels more geared towards the man who already has a decent beard and wants to maintain and elevate the look.
The routine is relatively simple, with two main products, and I like the overall premium, understated feel of the brand.
It has that clean, polished aesthetic that makes beard maintenance feel less complicated.
My biggest takeaway
If you're trying to improve a patchy beard, don't expect results overnight.
Find a routine that works for you, use products consistently, take care of the skin underneath your beard and give your beard time.
Overall, If you're looking for beard growth, it wont happen in a day. Go for a good beard growth brand and be consistent. You'll see results. And remeber to massage your products in and use a dermaroller weekly.
What Brands have you used and what worked for you?
