“It’s very important” — Dangote explains why Nigerians should buy refinery shares

The appearance came amid the ongoing Dangote Refinery IPO, which opened on September 14 and is scheduled to close on October 13, 2026.

The offer comprises 4.1 billion shares priced at ₦525 each, with a minimum subscription of 10 shares, meaning eligible investors can participate from ₦5,250. The refinery has been promoted as a “people’s IPO,” with Dangote saying the offering is intended to broaden ownership and allow ordinary Nigerians and other eligible investors to acquire stakes in the business.

The Times Square appearance placed the Nigerian-owned refinery’s IPO on one of New York’s most prominent digital advertising locations, with the billboard carrying the message, “Made in Nigeria.
