SaharaReporters earlier reported that amid renewed flooding concerns in Anambra State, the government spent just ₦135 million on erosion and flood control between January and June 2026, despite allocating ₦5 billion for the intervention, according to a review of official budget performance documents.

The spending represents 2.7 per cent of the budget provision, leaving about ₦4.865 billion unspent by the end of June.

The low expenditure comes as parts of the state face flooding after heavy rainfall. The latest incident in Awka left one person missing and six children rescued by emergency responders.

On Tuesday, heavy rain triggered flooding around Ring Road in Agu Awka, disrupting movement in the area. Officials of Awka South Local Government Area at the scene said the immediate situation had been brought under control, while emergency agencies continued response operations.
