MBah’s Health Investments Position ESUTH Parklane for Postgraduate Accreditation
...Hospital receives over N500m surgical equipment, secures 350 training slots
Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUTH) Parklane is set for postgraduate accreditation by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and the West African College of Surgeons, following sustained investments by Governor Peter Mbah’s administration in healthcare infrastructure, equipment and specialist manpower.
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Bethrand Ngwu, disclosed this on Friday, September 25, 2026, while briefing newsmen in Enugu.
Ngwu said the state government had provided over N500 million worth of surgical and specialised equipment, including ventilators, patient monitors, image intensifiers, X-ray machines and operating-theatre equipment, significantly strengthening ESUTH’s capacity for complex procedures and specialist training.
He credited Governor Mbah’s commitment with the hospital’s progress, adding that ESUTH had secured 350 postgraduate training slots following its recent accreditation by the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council.
The CMD said the state was also funding medical residency training and strengthening specialist manpower, with ESUTH currently having 126 full-time consultants, 50 part-time consultants, 540 nurses and 130 house officers, among other professionals.
He said the ongoing transformation was positioning ESUTH as a stronger centre for tertiary healthcare and postgraduate medical training in the South-East.
