“University of Offa Has Made Significant Improvements in Short Time” – Harmony FM GM
The General Manager of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Harmony FM, Idofian, Hajia Binta Abubakar-Mora has commended the management of the University of Offa (UNIOFFA), Kwara State, for the institution’s rapid transformation, expansion and growing profile within Nigeria’s higher education sector.
Abubakar-Mora spoke on Monday, September 28, 2026, when the management team of UNIOFFA paid her a courtesy visit in her office at the Harmony FM station in Idofian to formally intimate her of the Senate’s decision to confer on her an ambassadorial award during the university’s maiden convocation ceremony.
She stated that UNIOFFA is an institution that had, within a relatively short period, established a presence on the Nigerian educational landscape.
She said that its growth in student population, faculties and academic programmes reflected significant development.
The Harmony FM General Manager said she had initially wondered about the emergence of the University of Offa when she first heard of the institution, but said the university’s subsequent engagement with the station had enabled her to appreciate its growth and contributions to education.
“I see that the University of Offa has already made a name for itself and has put itself on the map of educational institutions in Nigeria,” she said.
“Without mincing words, I know that the leap of transformation from the time you took over the responsibility of manning the institution to where we are today, I see that you have made significant improvements.”
She congratulated the management on what she described as a significant feat, particularly the increase in the number of students, faculties and courses offered by the institution.
According to her, sustaining and growing an institution in Nigeria’s increasingly competitive higher education environment requires commitment and courage.
Abubakar-Mora also expressed optimism that UNIOFFA would continue to expand, predicting further growth in its academic offerings and student population.
She particularly commended the university’s plan to support its graduating students with start-up grants, describing the initiative as a step towards producing graduates who would create jobs rather than depend solely on white-collar employment.
“I am more impressed with the fact that the institution is concerned about their graduates, that you want to reel out graduates that will not be job-seeking but rather employers of labour themselves,” she said.
She urged greater emphasis on entrepreneurship and job creation among young Nigerians, stressing the need for graduates to develop businesses and create employment opportunities for others.
Abubakar-Mora further suggested that UNIOFFA could explore collaboration with the Bank of Industry (BOI) to support the proposed start-up grant scheme for graduating students with viable business ideas.
She said a well-developed proposal could attract institutional support for young entrepreneurs emerging from the university.
The Harmony FM boss also pledged continued collaboration between the radio station and UNIOFFA, describing the existing relationship as one built on a solid foundation.
She said the station would continue to support the university’s programmes and projects within its capacity.
On the ambassadorial award, Abubakar-Mora expressed appreciation to the university for considering her worthy of the honour, promising to use her position and platforms available to her to promote the institution.
“I promise that we'll continue to project the University within our small circle, within my circle, within the organisation. Wherever we have the opportunity, Insha Allah, we'll continue to project the University of Offa,” she said.
She also described the planned attendance of Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama at the maiden convocation as a significant development, saying his presence would further add prominence to the ceremony.
She congratulated UNIOFFA on the milestone and expressed optimism that the convocation would be successful and remain a memorable event.
The UNIOFFA delegation was led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kazeem Alagbe Gbolagade, and included the Director of Academic Planning and Institutional Research, Dr Abdulrazak Agboola Bello; Personal Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Jimoh Obalowu Mustapha; Course Coordinator, Faculty of Health Sciences, Kazeem Adewale Gbolagade; and Head, Media and Public Relations Unit, Taofik Adekunle Jimoh.
Other Harmony FM officials at the meeting included the Head of Programmes, Shamsudeen Kuburat; Head of News, Iliyas Rasheedat; Head of Engineering Department, Engr. Yinka Shuaib; and Head of ICT, Engr. Yinka Mashood.
