I Tested 12 Loan Apps In Kenya. Only 2 Paid Me The Same Day.
I won't waste your time.
I have borrowed from 12 mobile loan apps in Kenya since 2019. Most of them stressed me. Two actually behaved.
My worst night: I needed 4,000 bob by 6am for rent. Five applications. Three rejections. One app collected my selfie with my ID card and vanished. One sent my money to a wrong number. My number, wrong person.
The two that worked:
LendPlus — no app download at all. I did everything in my phone browser, from the form to the M-Pesa alert, in under 10 minutes. The rate never gave me a headache, and repayment is one paybill.
MoneyHello — it isn't even a lender. It's a matchmaker. I filled one form and it connected me to three lenders that approved me without stress. If one lender says no, another says yes.
Red flags I learned the hard way:
Any app that asks for a "processing fee" before the loan. Run. Any app that threatens to call your contacts when you're one day late. That's harassment, not collection. Any "no CRB check" promise at 40% interest per month. That's a trap that will punish you later.
I wrote everything down in one place: the full review, the 5-point checklist I use, and the mistakes that cost me real money (I once borrowed 2,500 for a birthday dinner. The meal lasted three hours. The interest lasted three weeks).
Please share your own experience too. Which app paid you fastest? Which one ghosted you after collecting your ID photo? I read every reply, and I'll add the good ones to my next test list.
