Why Do Some People Want To Check Your Phone But Hide Theirs?
“GIVE ME YOUR PHONE. IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE, WHY ARE YOU AFRAID?”
Then you ask for their own phone and suddenly you have violated their privacy.
Some people want unrestricted access to their partner’s phone. They want the password, WhatsApp chats, Instagram messages, call logs, gallery and sometimes even deleted messages. Yet when you politely ask for the same access, they suddenly remember the importance of boundaries, privacy and personal space.
There is nothing wrong with couples agreeing to have access to each other’s phones. There is also nothing wrong with having personal privacy in a relationship. The problem starts when one person wants a privilege they are unwilling to extend to their partner. You cannot make your partner’s phone an open book while yours becomes a classified document.
The funniest part is when someone says, “Give me your phone. I trust you, but I don't trust other women.”
Then you ask for theirs.
“Why do you want to check my phone? Don't you trust me?”
My brother, what happened to the argument you brought five minutes ago? 😂
The principle is simple. If phone access is acceptable in your relationship, let it apply to both people. If privacy matters, let it matter to both people. Do not create relationship rules that only benefit you.
A relationship becomes ridiculous when one person demands transparency while practising secrecy.
The standard you expect from your partner should be a standard you can comfortably accept for yourself.
