“How I became so desperate for validation and craved clout and recognition” – DJ Cuppy spills as she opens up on her spiritual journey (Video)

Disc jockey Florence Otedola, better known as DJ Cuppy, has opened up about her personal and spiritual growth. In a video she shared online, Cuppy reflected on a major transformation in her life and how her priorities have changed over the years, especially when she embraced Christ. She disclosed that she was once so desperate for validation and craved clout and recognition; however, that has changed since her relationship with Christ, which brought her to a completely different place emotionally and spiritually.

Cuppy said she is now in a place of peace, and her sense of worth is no longer tied to public approval, relevance or the attention of others. “I was so desperate for validation at the start of my career. I wanted to be relevant. I was scared of not being important. I craved clout. And now I’m just in a place of peace. It reminds me of a verse in the Bible, 1st Galatians 10, which says Really and truly, am I trying to please people, or am I actually trying to please God because if I were people-pleasing, I would not be a servant of Christ, and so that is how I live my life.

Yeah, it’s working out for me. I no longer care what people think.” In 2024, the disc jockey opened up about her spiritual journey, revealing that she had the rare opportunity to do the two things she loves the most: DJing and serving God. Cuppy further revealed how nervous she was about curating a performance with only Christian music, but God changed and guided her through it.

As she ended 2025, she said she was at peace and fully healed, so she doesn’t entertain negativity in any form and is intentional with her energy. Otedola’s daughter said her only life ambition was to reach heaven. In other news, Cuppy expressed a desire to move to the countryside, delete her social media, get 3 goats and go into hiding until Jesus comes. Sometimes back, Cuppy had sent out a quick PSA to Nigerians as she cried out over being misunderstood.

She expressed that Nigerians do not understand her personality and her humour. She also expressed her longing for people to really understand her for who she is one day. In a social media post, she announced that she was no longer searching for new friends. The disc jockey shared photos of her mother, sisters, and boxer, Anthony Joshua, as she described them as her inner circles and made it known that she wasn’t looking for any more friends.

While delivering a speech at her Alma mater, King’s College London, she noted that she had graduated from the school and was now delivering the graduation commemoration speech. Expressing pride in herself, Cuppy said she was still pinching herself. Cuppy had lectured the public on the importance of protecting their peace. She avowed that fasting from certain people is important, as she had removed certain individuals from her life, or they had left her.
