A Lagos commercial bus driver nearly went to jail over a bottle of Fearless energy drink.
He accepted it as a simple waybill package meant for delivery in Ondo State, thinking it was just another soft drink. NDLEA officers later opened it and found the bottle had been carefully emptied and stuffed with Colos and methamphetamine. The green leafy substance and the white powder were sealed inside plastic, hidden in plain sight.
The driver spent time in custody. Under the law, possession is enough to make you culpable, whether you knew what was inside or not. He walked free only because operatives managed to track down and arrest the person who handed him the package in the first place.
Femi Babafemi of the NDLEA put it plainly: don’t judge a book by its cover, and don’t carry parcels whose contents you cannot verify. The next person who accepts a “harmless” bottle or envelope may not be so lucky.
