The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has ordered that a query be issued to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of 33 Police Station, Onitsha, and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), while directing disciplinary action against a Police Inspector over an alleged unaccounted-for armed robbery suspect. The development followed a viral video alleging that an armed robbery suspect who was arrested and taken to 33 Police Station could not be accounted for.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner personally interviewed the complainant and the officers involved on October 5, 2026, before issuing the directives. Ikenga said CP Nnanna described the allegation as grave and capable of eroding public confidence in the Police, stressing that the Command would not condone any act of unprofessional conduct, dereliction of duty or compromise of standard procedures.
Consequently, the CP has directed the X-Squad of the Command to carry out a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arrest, detention, documentation and subsequent whereabouts of the suspect, including the roles played by the officers on duty. He further disclosed that operational measures have been put in place to facilitate the rearrest of the suspect, assuring that the outcome of the investigation would be made public.
The Commissioner, however, cautioned members of the public against circulating unverified information capable of prejudicing ongoing investigations, noting that facts must be established through due process. He reiterated that accountability remains a core principle of his leadership and that no officer is above scrutiny or the established disciplinary process of the Nigeria Police Force.
