'Even the Devil Wears a Pretty Smile' By Godspower Oshodin

Oshodin releases debut novel, announces African book tour

Award-winning Nigerian author and filmmaker, Godspower Oshodin, has released his debut novel, Even the Devil Wears a Pretty Smile, with plans to begin an African book tour in November.

The novel, published by the Africa Literature Trust Fund, is available in paperback and Kindle editions through Amazon.

Set across locations including Kirikiri and Abuja, the book explores themes of loyalty, ambition, power and silence, according to information released by the author.

The novel features a foreword by Gbenga Komolafe, PhD, Pioneer Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

In the foreword, Komolafe described the book as a challenging work and said it addresses difficult issues through its narrative.

Oshodin said the idea for the novel dates back to 2012 when he first shared the title with his friend, Victor Jideofor, popularly known as Phlame Nations.

According to him, he later shared the story with friends in Lagos, who encouraged him to adapt it into a film.

He said he decided to wait before developing the project, adding that the novel was eventually completed 14 years after the title was first conceived.

“The man who finished this book has learnt a great deal and seen a great deal since,” Oshodin said.

He added that his travels had influenced his perspective and the development of the book.

“I have travelled to 77 countries and 103 cities, and those journeys shaped how I see life and this book,” he said.

Oshodin is expected to commence a book tour across selected African countries in November.

The tour will feature readings, author conversations, media interviews and book signings, while the organisers said details of the participating cities and dates would be announced later.

Oshodin is also a poet, journalist, filmmaker and humanitarian. His works include the anti-rape short film, The Scale (Tears for Enebi), and The Last Debt.

His poetry collection, A Poet Who Died By His Poem, was published and launched in Dubai.

He is the founder of the Young Talents Initiative and a United Nations Volunteer.

The Africa Literature Trust Fund, publisher of the novel, promotes reading, writing and multilingual culture in Nigeria and across Africa.

Even the Devil Wears a Pretty Smile is a 305-page novel available in paperback and Kindle editions.
