Oluwatosin Anthony Ayodeji Odunaiya, popularly known as Anthony “Tornado” Odunaiya, is a cruiserweight boxer whose involvement in the sport dates back to 2015. Born on August 24, 1990, Odunaiya competes in the 81kg–85kg weight range and has participated in amateur and white-collar boxing. His introduction to boxing began in 2015 when he joined a local gym in Waltham Cross, where he started learning the fundamentals of the sport, including footwork, punching techniques and conditioning.
A year later, in 2016, he joined Edmonton Eagles Amateur Boxing Club, where he continued his development and gained experience in a more competitive boxing environment. Odunaiya moved to Selby Amateur Boxing Club in 2018, a period that marked another stage in his amateur boxing career. At Selby ABC, he combined his training with participation in competitive bouts and later took on a leadership role within the gym.
In 2019, he was appointed Gym Captain, a position that involved supporting other members of the club and contributing to activities within the gym. During his amateur career, Odunaiya recorded six amateur bouts and a reported 7–2 record, while also making two appearances in white-collar boxing. His boxing career, however, was interrupted by a four-year break from active competition.
The break kept him away from regular competitive action, although his previous experience in amateur boxing remained an important part of his sporting background. Odunaiya’s journey in boxing has therefore included grassroots training, amateur competition, gym leadership and a period away from active competition. After beginning the sport in Waltham Cross in 2015, he went on to train with Edmonton Eagles Amateur Boxing Club and Selby Amateur Boxing Club before becoming Gym Captain in 2019.
His career to date reflects the different stages of an amateur boxer’s development, from learning the fundamentals of the sport to competing, taking on responsibilities within a boxing club and subsequently stepping away from active competition.
