Rice Prices Crash From ₦100,000 To ₦60,000 — But Are Nigerians Really Buying At

There appears to be some relief for Nigerian households as traders report a significant drop in the price of rice across parts of the country.

According to a report by Legit.ng, a 50kg bag of rice that previously sold for around ₦90,000 to ₦100,000 is now reportedly going for ₦60,000 to ₦70,000 in some markets.

That's a potential reduction of up to 30%, depending on the market, brand and variety.

The decline has been linked to improved rice supply and increased competition among traders.

For many Nigerian families, this is welcome news, especially considering how much food prices have affected household budgets over the past few years.

However, there is still one important question.

Are these lower prices actually reaching consumers in neighbourhood markets, or are they mainly being reported in major wholesale markets?

Because sometimes we hear that food prices have crashed, but when you get to the market near your house, the sellers have a completely different price.

Nairalanders, how much is a 50kg bag of rice selling in your area right now?

Please mention your state or market so we can compare actual prices across Nigeria.
