What Should You Compare Before Buying A 50TPD Palm Oil Refinery?

A company planning to enter palm oil refining needs to evaluate more than the price and capacity of the equipment. Refining technology, crude oil characteristics, the finished product target and quality-control requirements all influence the configuration.

A recent project in Mexico provides a practical example.

On September 2, 2026, Glory Oiltech (Henan Glory) signed a contract with a Mexican livestock enterprise for a 50TPD fully continuous physical palm oil refining line and supporting laboratory testing equipment. The inquiry was received on August 24, and the client's decision-making cycle was less than 10 days.

Here are four areas worth reviewing before ordering a refinery.

  1. Compare physical and chemical refining for your actual feedstock

Physical refining avoids the conventional alkali-neutralization stage. Under suitable crude-oil and process conditions, this can reduce the need for caustic soda and soapstock handling. It may also reduce neutral-oil losses associated with soapstock separation.

Another consideration is the fatty-acid-rich distillate produced during physical refining. It may have commercial value, but that depends on the local market and available uses.

These advantages should not be assumed for every project. The suitability of physical refining depends on crude palm oil characteristics, including free fatty acid (FFA) content, moisture, impurities and phosphorus, along with the target finished-oil specifications.

Ask the supplier to explain why the proposed process suits your feedstock and operating requirements.

  1. Confirm what the refining line includes

The Mexican order includes a 50TPD fully continuous physical refining line with:

Steam-distillation deacidification

A four-stage steam-jet vacuum system

A fatty acid recovery unit

The line is designed to process crude palm oil into refined, bleached and deodorized (RBD) palm oil according to the project's target specifications.

When comparing quotations, confirm the equipment scope, processing capacity, utility requirements, expected operating conditions and any supporting systems required at the site. Two quotations with the same nominal capacity may not cover the same equipment or services.

  1. Do not overlook laboratory testing

The Mexican project also includes a Lovibond colorimeter, smoke point tester, rapid moisture analyzer and peroxide value test kit.

Laboratory testing helps the operating team obtain timely information on oil quality during production. Depending on the crude oil and finished-product requirements, testing may include moisture, color, peroxide value, acid value and other relevant parameters.

The exact testing items and acceptance criteria should be established for the project rather than assumed to be identical for every refinery.

  1. Prepare the operating team before commissioning

For a company entering oil refining for the first time, equipment installation is not the final preparation step.

Before commissioning, clarify:

Who will operate the refining line?

Who is responsible for maintenance and troubleshooting?

Who will conduct laboratory testing?

What crude oil quality and finished-oil specifications must be met?

What commissioning and operator training will the supplier provide?

Defining these responsibilities early helps connect equipment operation with product quality management.

What information should you provide when requesting a quotation?

A useful initial project brief includes target capacity, crude palm oil characteristics, required finished-oil specifications, expected operating schedule, available utilities, site conditions and laboratory testing needs.

Glory Oiltech (Henan Glory) signed the Mexican project after a technical comparison and discussion of the client's requirements. The project illustrates why buyers should assess refining process, equipment configuration and quality-control needs together.
