Scripture Text
"No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me, says the Lord." — Isaiah 54:17
What Is a "Destructive Tongue? A destructive tongue is any speech—spoken by others or directed toward yourself—empowered by demonic intent to wound, sabotage, defame, or spiritually limit a destiny. The Bible warns that "death and life are in the power of the tongue" (Proverbs 18:21). It acts as a rudder; when hijacked by darkness, it steers lives into failure, depression, and spiritual cages.
5 Types of Destructive Tongues
1. The Accusing / Slandering Tongue This type of tongue uses deliberate falsehoods and engineered rumors to destroy an innocent person's standing, integrity, and future. In Scripture, wicked Queen Jezebel hired false witnesses to accuse Naboth of blaspheming God and the king, resulting in his execution (1 Kings 21:10–13). In everyday life, this occurs when an envious co-worker or competitor fabricates malicious lies behind your back to ruin your reputation and block a promotion.
2. The Cursing / Occultic Tongue This tongue releases demonic pronouncements, witchcraft incantations, or evil decrees aimed at enforcing failure, tragedy, and stagnation. In the Bible, King Balak hired the false prophet Balaam specifically to place verbal curses over the Israelites so they could be defeated in battle (Numbers 22:5–6). Today, this appears when jealous relatives, rival business owners, or malicious individuals speak evil pronouncements over your health, family, or children to cause hardship.
3. The Discouraging / Fear-Inducing Tongue This voice delivers intimidating, belittling words designed to break your spirit, steal your confidence, and cause you to retreat from your divine purpose. Scripture records how Goliath shouted daily insults and declarations of doom to paralyze the entire army of Israel with fear (1 Samuel 17:8–11). In modern terms, this happens when hyper-critical voices constantly tell you, "You will never amount to anything" or "Nobody in our lineage succeeds, so why try?"
4. The Flattering / Deceitful Tongue This tongue operates through hypocritical charm, using fake praise to hide malicious traps and double-crossing intentions. The ultimate biblical example is Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus to His captors under the guise of an affectionate greeting and a kiss (Matthew 26:49). In daily life, this is reflected in fake friends who smile and praise you to your face while plotting traps, feeding you false advice, or undermining you behind closed doors.
5. The Self-Defeating / Careless Tongue Unlike external attacks, this tongue involves using your own mouth to speak defeat, hopelessness, and doubt over your life, aligning yourself with the enemy’s plans. In the wilderness, the ten unfaithful spies confessed total failure before even fighting, declaring: "We were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight" (Numbers 13:33), which cost a generation their entry into the Promised Land.
Today, this manifests whenever you constantly declare over yourself: "I will never get this right," "I am finished," or "I knew I would fail."
Destroying the Power Behind Destructive Tongues Evil words spoken against you are backed by spiritual forces seeking to enforce them in the physical realm (Ephesians 6:12). Destroying the power behind them means silencing the demonic backing, breaking their legal hold, and enforcing God’s written promises. Here are 5 concrete ways to break their power: 1. Answer and Condemn Evil Words Directly When Goliath shouted curses at David, David did not stay silent; he immediately spoke back in the name of the Lord to neutralize the giant's words (1 Samuel 17:45–46).
In your everyday life, whenever someone speaks failure or tragedy over you, cancel it immediately out loud or in your heart: "I reject and nullify that statement in Jesus' name; that is not my portion." 2. Plead the Blood of Jesus Scripture teaches that the Blood of Jesus speaks better things than the blood of Abel (Hebrews 12:24)—where Abel's blood cried out for vengeance, Jesus' blood speaks redemption and ultimate victory.
In your daily walk, whenever you sense or hear evil pronouncements, pray: "I silence every evil voice by the superior speaking Blood of Jesus." 3. Refuse Bitterness and Bless Instead Jesus gave a clear directive: "Bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you" (Luke 6:28). Refusing to retaliate with bitter or angry words keeps your spiritual door closed, preventing the enemy from using your own emotional reaction to gain legal ground against you.
4. Align Your Own Mouth with God’s Word Believers overcome the accuser by the word of their testimony (Revelation 12:11). Never repeat the enemy's diagnosis or negative expectations over your own life; instead, consistently speak scripture, declaring: "I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord" (Psalm 118:17). 5. Engage in Targeted Spiritual Warfare The Apostle Paul calls us to pull down strongholds and cast down every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:4–5).
In practice, this means taking time in prayer to aggressively dismantle any back-channel gossip, monitoring spirits, or evil altars working to fuel slander against your destiny.
God bless you in Jesus Mighty Name amen 🙏
Call to Repentance To effectively silence the enemy's accusations, you must first ensure you are standing on righteous ground with God ("Whoever covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will find mercy" — Proverbs 28:13).
"If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." — Romans 10:9–10
Prayer of Salvation & Confession: Lord Jesus, I come before You today acknowledging that I need You. I repent of all my sins, my careless words, and every way I have fallen short. Wash me clean with Your precious blood. I believe in my heart that You died for me and rose again. Today, I confess with my mouth that Jesus Christ is my personal Lord and Saviour. Take total control of my life and give me the grace to walk in victory from this day forward. Amen.
Congratulations!!!
