Samsung Vs Infinix Warranty In Nigeria: My Experience

When comparing Samsung and Infinix smartphones, many Nigerians focus on camera quality, battery life, performance and price.

But I want to compare something I believe is even more important: their warranty service.

I have personally experienced warranty claims involving both brands, and the difference in how my complaints were resolved has changed my opinion about buying expensive smartphones.

MY INFINIX WARRANTY EXPERIENCE (2020)

Around 2020, I purchased an Infinix smartphone for my mother.

While the phone was still under warranty, it developed a problem with its SIM slot.

I made a warranty claim, and the faulty phone was replaced.

That was it. The warranty served its purpose, and I got a replacement for a phone that developed a fault.

This experience made me appreciate the importance of buying a brand-new smartphone with a warranty.

MY SAMSUNG WARRANTY EXPERIENCE (2022)

On October 13, 2022, I purchased a brand-new Samsung Galaxy phone from Finet Communication Limited.

The phone came with a 2-year warranty.

Less than one month later, it developed a serious fault. Flight Mode kept activating automatically, disconnecting the mobile network and preventing calls.

Samsung's own authorised service centre confirmed that it was a factory defect.

Considering that the phone was barely one month old and still had almost its entire 2-year warranty remaining, I expected a straightforward solution.

Unfortunately, that was not what happened.

Best Raya Service, the technical partner handling the repairs, worked on the phone up to seven times, although only two repairs were formally documented.

They even replaced the phone's panel, yet the original fault persisted.

If the panel was replaced, why did the same problem continue?

I spent months moving up and down, patiently allowing repeated repair attempts.

Eventually, I requested a replacement because the repairs were not resolving the defect.

Samsung initially refused.

After months of frustration, I instructed my lawyer to write to the parties involved.

It took legal intervention before a replacement was arranged, and the wider dispute remained unresolved.

Finet Communication Limited, the retailer I purchased from, also failed to provide the assistance I expected. During the legal proceedings, Finet filed a ₦7 million counterclaim against me, which the court overruled.

Nearly four years later, I am still seeking a fair resolution.

SAMSUNG VS INFINIX: COMPARING MY WARRANTY EXPERIENCES

Here is what happened in both cases:

Infinix: - Phone purchased for my mother around 2020. - Developed a SIM-slot problem under warranty. - I made a warranty claim. - The faulty phone was replaced. - The complaint was resolved without needing legal intervention.

Samsung: - Brand-new Galaxy purchased in October 2022. - Developed a factory defect within one month. - Samsung's authorised service centre confirmed the defect. - Up to seven repair attempts, including a panel replacement, failed to provide a lasting solution. - I had to involve a lawyer before a replacement was arranged. - The wider dispute has continued for nearly four years.

SO WHICH WARRANTY GAVE ME BETTER PROTECTION?

Based strictly on my personal experiences, Infinix provided the more satisfactory warranty outcome.

This is not about which phone has the better camera or processor.

It is about what happens when a customer needs the manufacturer to honour a warranty.

I deliberately avoid Tokunbo phones because I want certainty about what I'm buying. I also consider the availability of authorised service centres before choosing a smartphone brand.

That is why I expected Samsung's 2-year warranty to provide meaningful protection.

But what is the value of a 2-year warranty if a customer must involve a lawyer to obtain a replacement for a factory defect confirmed within the first month?

How many Nigerians can afford the financial burden of prolonged legal proceedings over a phone worth less than ₦1 million?

I am not claiming that every Infinix warranty claim is handled perfectly or that every Samsung customer will experience what I experienced.

I am comparing two actual warranty experiences I have personally had.

And based on those experiences, I would be more comfortable considering Infinix again than relying solely on Samsung's advertised 2-year warranty.

MY ADVICE TO NIGERIANS

Before buying a smartphone, don't focus only on specifications, brand reputation or the number of warranty years printed on the carton.

Find out what happens when repeated repairs fail. Ask whether the manufacturer offers a replacement, how warranty complaints are escalated, and how long customers typically wait for a resolution.

A warranty is only valuable when it provides meaningful support when something goes wrong.

Now I want to hear from other Nigerians.

Between Samsung, Infinix, Tecno, Xiaomi and other brands, which manufacturer has given you the best or worst warranty experience?

Have you ever had a faulty phone replaced under warranty without involving a lawyer?

Let's compare real experiences.
