Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade is set to undergo further medical examinations after suffering an injury during Nigeria’s 5-0 victory over Comoros in the second leg of the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward was forced off in the 23rd minute of the encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Tuesday after a collision with a Comoros defender.
Ajibade was visibly in pain and had to be stretchered off the pitch, with Folashade Ijamilusi coming on as her replacement.
Eguavoen Speaks On Ajibade’s Injury
Super Falcons interim coach Augustine Eguavoen confirmed after the match that the team’s medical staff had taken Ajibade to the hospital for an MRI scan to determine the extent of the injury.
He expressed hope that the injury would not be serious but explained that the medical team would provide an official update once the necessary examinations had been completed.
The injury has raised concerns among Nigerian fans, considering Ajibade’s importance to the team as captain and one of its key attacking players.
Super Falcons Advance To Third Round
Despite losing their captain early in the match, Nigeria went on to secure a convincing 5-0 victory over Comoros, completing a 7-0 aggregate win to advance to the third round of the Olympic qualifiers.
Toni Payne and Uchenna Kanu both scored twice, while Christy Ucheibe converted a penalty to seal the emphatic victory.
The Super Falcons will now face Morocco in the next round as they continue their quest to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
However, Ajibade’s fitness remains a major concern, with Nigeria hoping the scan results will bring positive news ahead of the crucial encounter against Morocco.
What do you think? Can the Super Falcons overcome Morocco if their captain is unavailable?
