The wife of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL), Chief Titi Atiku Abubakar, has raised alarm over the rising cases of human trafficking involving Nigerian girls. On Thursday in Abuja at the presentation of NACTAL’s review of the 2025 Trafficking in Persons Report released by the United States Department of State, Titi Atiku said Nigerian girls going abroad are becoming a “nuisance” in their host countries.
Explaining why international partners are supporting Nigeria’s anti-trafficking efforts, she said they want Nigerian girls to stay back home and build their lives in Nigeria. Titi Atiku, who is also the founder of the Women Trafficking and Child Labour Eradication Foundation (WOTCLEF), called for stronger collaboration among civil society organisations, noting that NACTAL has about 286 CSOs working with it as foot soldiers and cannot fight trafficking alone.
