The Lucky Gold Digger....a True Life Story

The Lucky Gold Digger....A true life story. Emeka was born into hardship, the second of four children in a small compound in Imo State. School fees were a monthly crisis, but fate intervened through his maternal uncle, Chief Ibe - a respected trader in medical supplies at Onitsha Head Bridge Market. With Chief Ibe's support, Emeka completed secondary school and went on to study Psychology at a federal university.

He was the family's hope. Then, in his final year, Chief Ibe died in a road accident. The safety net was gone. After graduation, Emeka served his NYSC in Lagos, posted to a private secondary school in Ajah; when service ended, the school kept him on as a full-time teacher. The salary was meagre, the rent was not. For three years he taught, saved, and watched Lagos move ahead of him.

In that frustration Emeka joined a WhatsApp group where young men connected with older, wealthy women seeking companionship. His first arrangement ended in disaster: a woman on Lagos Island paid him N100,000 for the night; the encounter was degrading and physically overwhelming, he was pressured to drink to cope, and the experience left him shaken and hospitalized. He vowed never to return to that life.

A friend later invited him to a large Pentecostal church in Lagos, attended mostly by working-class professional women. Emeka threw himself into the church; the head pastor noticed and introduced him to Ms. Chioma, a Director at MTN Nigeria, in her late 40s. With the pastor's blessing a relationship formed quickly, and within a year they were married. Chioma, who had struggled with fibroids, decided to seek treatment in India.

Tragically, she did not survive the surgery. In her will she left her properties in both the Island and Mainland to Emeka; MTN also offered him a role in her department. Against the objections of Chioma's family, Emeka became the legal beneficiary of her estate. Six months later, now financially secure, Emeka returned to his village and married a young woman his own age - 'and that, as people in the village now say, is where the story started.'

Many people in the village and some of his old friends now call him the lucky Gold digger. Written by greatiyk4u, Mutum Biyu, Taraba state.
