Quote A Line From Your Family's Pedigree/Panegyric?
Yes - as Africans, we didn't have a written culture originally (I mean black native Africa, not Egyptians - please let's not digress). Our records and documentaries were oratory. To prove your ancestral lineage or family deeds, you would have to memorize and recite some words and sentences. It is in our DNA and it was kind of the Facebook or Google or even AI of those days.
I am slim and according to my family panegyric I have discovered that most of my ancestors were like that - a line in our oriki in both my maternal and paternal ancestry refers to us as "Omo Atere tibon tibon"... that is, the child of the slim dude that goes around with a gun; it means they were hunters too.
I am from Ekiti (hills) and my cognomen is Omo Owa, Omo Ekun - Owa is royalty in some Ekiti towns and particularly Ilesha; Ekun was the first king in Akure, he was a hunter from Ife. I hope you get my drift - what's your pedigree? Say no to tribalism.
VIVA AFRICA.
