MTN Needs To Regulate Their Roadside Sim Registration Agents, My Experience.
I think we are not security conscious enough as a nation. How can MTN allow roadside SIM registration agents use a customer's NIN to register SIM for another customer? I had an issue with my line and called a customer agent to rectify it; along the line I told him to check the number of phone numbers connected to my NIN because I suspected foul play when I registered a new line last month.
To my dismay, he mentioned 5 unknown contacts. I asked him to delink but he referred me to their office. Today I went to their branch and laid a complaint. The customer care said I would have to pay any debt incurred by those unknown numbers before it will work - luckily none were owing MTN.
I delinked the numbers and called it a day. Please check your NIN status to avoid stories - use this code to check and delink any number you are not sure of: *996#.
