Should Bride Price Be Paid For Non-virgins?
01
Good afternoon, Nairalanders. In many Nigerian cultures, bride price is traditionally paid to the family of a virgin bride. It's a symbol of purity, honour, and the value placed on a woman who kept herself. But today, many women are getting married without being virgins - some by choice, some by circumstance - and still expecting full bride price.
So my questions are: Should a man pay full bride price for a woman who isn't a virgin?
If the tradition is about purity, does it still apply? If the woman has a past, should the bride price be reduced or waived? Or is bride price just about the family's permission and not about her sexual history?
Let's hear it, men and women. No insults - just honest opinions.
