HRM Igwe Godwin Nwabunwanne Odiegwu, the traditional ruler of Abacha ancient kingdom, Idemili North LGA, recently marked his forty years in marriage.
Speaking to newsmen on this epoch making event, Igwe Odiegwu who was full of thanks and gratitude to God, used the opportunity to advice and admonish youths and intending couples on the importance of imbibing the virtue of patience, sincerity, absolute trust for each other, love and more importantly, total dependence in God for strength and to withstand challenges of marital life.
He said, "Marriage is a divine institution and couples must tolerate and trust each other, if it can succeed," the royal father noted.
"There is absolute joy in marriage if couples could tolerate each other's shortcomings, and always exercise patience, as well as make God the pillar of their marriages," he added.
Describing external influence as chief cause of marriage breakup, the monarch appealed to younger couples and others who want to enter into marriages to avoid interference in their marriages, even from their parents, friends etc.
Said he, “I'm appealing to youths and intending couples not to allow any outsider to come into their marriages or settle quarrels for them.
They should not copy anybody's marriage, as success in marriage has no formula. The two can settle their quarrels, acting as a team, tolerating and always inviting the presence of God in their lives.”
He attributed the success of his own marriage to the grace of God, stressing that God has been grateful to him, his wife and his entire family.
