Social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) has reignited discussions surrounding the ongoing controversy involving TMT Travels and Tours and Nigerians who say they paid money for visa and travel-related services. More than 200 complainants were recently reported to have approached the police with statements, receipts and transaction records concerning their dealings with the travel company.
Earlier reports also documented allegations involving millions of naira and undelivered visa services. These claims remain allegations and have not been established by a court. VDM QUESTIONS CELEBRITY ENDORSEMENTS: VDM has also questioned the role of influencers and celebrities who previously promoted TMT Travels. Among the personalities he mentioned are Prophet Rolex, Apama Nolly and Okwuluara Ndi Igbo.
Prophet Rolex has since apologized to people who may have patronized TMT after seeing his endorsements; he said he served as an ambassador between 2022 and 2024 but denied knowing about any alleged fraud or being involved in visa processing or financial transactions. A WARNING TO NIGERIANS: The controversy has renewed concerns about trusting celebrity endorsements without independently checking the businesses or products being promoted.
For Nigerians seeking visas, overseas jobs or travel opportunities, it is important to verify companies, demand proper documentation, keep payment records and avoid making large payments based solely on an influencer's recommendation. The TMT case is still subject to investigation, and the allegations should not be treated as a criminal conviction. What do you think?
