FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have officially suspended the ongoing NFF electoral process as they begin a joint assessment of the crisis rocking Nigerian football. The decision puts the planned September 27 NFF elective congress in Lafia, Nasarawa State on hold, with FIFA and CAF instructing the federation not to take any further steps or decisions regarding the electoral process until their assessment is completed.
A joint FIFA/CAF assessment mission will travel to Abuja to engage the NFF administration, NFF members, electoral bodies and Federal Government officials, including the National Sports Commission. The intervention follows the recent mass resignations of NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and members of the Executive Committee, leaving the future leadership of Nigerian football uncertain.
