News reaching us says the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has demanded the immediate dissolution of the Federal Polytechnic Offa Governing Council over attempts to sabotage the effort of the federal government to ensure stability in education calendar across the country. NANS leadership for Zone C (North Central) under the zonal coordinator comrade Abiola Afeez made the demand in a press release made available to newsmen today.
The press release stated thus: *NANS DEMANDS IMMEDIATE DISSOLUTION OF FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC OFFA GOVERNING COUNCIL OVER SABOTAGE AND DELIBERATE DESTABILIZATION OF ACADEMIC CALENDAR* The Leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone C (North Central Axis), under the leadership of the Zonal Coordinator, Comr. Abiola Azeez Babatunde, expresses grave concern over the worsening crisis at the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, and demands the immediate dissolution of the institution's Governing Council over what it considers gross negligence, administrative failure, and actions capable of deliberately destabilizing the institution's academic calendar.
NANS Zone C is particularly concerned that the academic activities and educational aspirations of thousands of Nigerian students are being disrupted by an avoidable industrial crisis involving the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP). Reports that the Governing Council failed to conduct its statutory meetings for an extended period, thereby allowing critical institutional matters to remain unresolved, are deeply troubling.
A Governing Council established by the Federal Government is expected to provide effective policy direction, institutional oversight, and a stable environment for teaching and learning. It is therefore unacceptable for administrative inaction at the level of the Council to become a catalyst for industrial disputes and prolonged disruption of the academic calendar. NANS Zone C acknowledges and commends the concerted efforts of the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to stabilize Nigeria's education sector and promote a more predictable and uninterrupted academic calendar.
The Federal Government has demonstrated commitment toward resolving longstanding grievances within the tertiary education system, including the settlement and resolution of outstanding issues with academic and other relevant staff unions across the various categories of tertiary institutions. *OFFICE OF THE COORDINATOR* *NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS (NANS)* *STUDENT'S UNION GOVERNMENT BUILDING* *KWARA STATE UNIVERSITY, MALETE, KWARA STATE, NIGERIA* 09039063316 | Nanszonec75@gmail.com 07033300739 | Bazeez399@gmail.com _Education is a right, Not a Privilege_ *ABUJA, BENUE, NIGER, NASSARAWA, KWARA, KOGI, PLATEAU*
