Sophia Momodu, the first babymama of music star Davido, has opened up about the struggles of having a child out of wedlock. While speaking at Columbia University ahead of the United Nations General Assembly High Level Week, she shared her story of having a child with a famous singer. According to her, she became pregnant out of wedlock by a global superstar, despite her father being a pastor. She said it was difficult because of the stigma, and she had to find her strength in the midst of it all.
She said that, for the longest time, she didn’t have a voice, despite becoming famous/popular. “I am a pastor’s daughter who got pregnant out of wedlock by a global superstar. And I was mocked. It was crázy. And I had to find my strength in the midst of all that. And for the longest time, I didn’t have a voice. I was famous, I was popular, but I didn’t have a voice. Sophia said the stigma and negativity drowned out her own voice and she wanted her own experience to be entertained understood.
She recalled being asked by an aunt to remain silent about the issue because it was considered a topic Black women weren’t expected to discuss publicly. A week later, she had opposed his joint custody battle, citing the death of his son, among others, as reasons the singer is unfit to raise their daughter on his own. Last year, Davido announced that he had finally reunited with his mini-me as he shared photos of him with Imade. The music star declared it the best day of his life. That same year, the estranged lovers had reunited for the first time in 3 years for Imade’s 10th birthday party.
The former couple were captured maintaining social distance as they pose for camera with their daughter. In February, 2026, Davido reportedly lost his cool in court in Yaba, during cross-examination for his custody battle with Sophia and was creating chaos in the courtroom. Davido explained that he never asked for full custody and asked for joint custody. He announced that he had decided to drop the case and assured his daughter that she would grow up knowing he fought for her.
Recall that things turned sour between Davido and Sophia after the singer reunited with his now wife, Chioma. This left Sophia infuriated, and she shared a post about a cat not taking rubbish from a dog. She later went on an extensive rant, accusing him of financially abusing her.
