7 "Clean" Habits Many Nigerians Have That Are Quietly Giving Them Infections

You bathe every day and still keep getting rashes, itching, or infections? The problem may not be your soap. Check whether you're doing any of these: 1. Using the same bathing sponge for months A sponge stays damp after every bath, and warm, moist places are where bacteria and fungus multiply fastest. Every time you use it, you may be rubbing those germs back onto your skin, which can lead to body rashes, pimples on the back, and skin infections.

Rinse it well, hang it in the sun to dry, and replace it every 3 to 4 weeks. 2. Wearing underwear that isn't fully dry Damp fabric traps sweat and warmth around the private area, which is exactly what fungus (like yeast) loves. This is one of the common causes of itching, irritation, and vaginal or groin infections. Dry your underwear in the sun where possible, since sunlight helps kill germs, and iron it before wearing.

3. Sharing razors, clippers, or nail cutters Tiny cuts you can't even see can carry blood from one person to another. Infections like hepatitis B can pass this way, and so can skin infections. It may look harmless to borrow a friend's clipper or a salon's blade, but it's a real risk. Keep your own, and make sure your barber or salon sterilizes their tools. 4. Washing private parts with harsh soap or douching The vagina cleans itself and keeps a healthy balance of good bacteria.

Strong soaps, antiseptics, or douching wash away those good bacteria, which lets harmful ones take over and causes odour, itching, and infection. Warm water and a mild, unscented soap on the outside only is enough. 5. Never replacing your toothbrush Bristles wear out and collect bacteria from your mouth, and a bathroom is a damp, germ-filled place to store one. An old brush cleans poorly and can reintroduce germs, especially after you've been sick.

Change it every 3 months and let it dry standing upright. 6. Taking your phone to the toilet Your phone touches your hands, your face, and your food, and toilets spray tiny droplets into the air. Germs from there can land on your phone and then travel to your mouth, which can cause stomach upset and infections. Wash your hands properly and wipe your phone with a clean, slightly damp cloth regularly.

7. Changing bedsheets and pillowcases once in a blue moon You sweat, shed dead skin, and leave oil on your bed every single night. Dust mites and bacteria feed on this, which can cause pimples, itching, blocked nose, and allergies. Wash your bedsheets and pillowcases at least once a week. Small habits, big difference. 💡 Now I want to hear from you 👇 Which of these did you NOT know was a problem?
